Summary

One of Agatha Christie's most famous novels, featuring her beloved detective Hercule Poirot--and her most surprising twist。

The story that made Agatha Christie famous ends with one of her most dramatic twists。 The villagers of King's Abbot are shocked when a wealthy local widow commits suicide and the very next day her fianc, Roger Ackroyd, is stabbed to death。 Dr。 James Sheppard, the local physician, discovers the body of his friend and narrates the ensuing hunt for the killer。 All the guests and staff at Ackroyd's country house seem to have solid alibis--except for his missing stepson。 But as the authorities home in on their most obvious suspect, the recently retired detective Hercule Poirot unexpectedly turns up and joins the fray。 Dr。 Sheppard gamely assists the legendary Poirot as he untangles one of the most fiendish mysteries in Christie's extensive oeuvre。

This was my first Agatha Christie and I absolutely loved it! There were definitely a couple of points I lost track slightly but the final chapters tied everything together so nicely that I understood everything in the end。 Would definitely recommend the audiobook as the narrator is excellent

I think because I had seen reviews saying how shocking the ending would be, it helped me wager a good guess。 That being said, it was an excellent read, full of twists and turns。

Classic whodunnit。

I couldn’t put it down。 As clever as clever gets。 I’m so glad I began reading Christie’s books with this one。 I had my suspicions of whom the killer was probably four fifths into the book and couldn’t believe I got it right! With every turn of a page I was more intrigued and engaged。 It’s one of those books where once you reread, you can see the Easter eggs Christie so cleverly places more clearly, allowing for every reread to be just as entertaining。

Cái tài của các bác tác giả trinh thám là đánh lạc hướng người đọc và chốt hạ một cú bất ngờ làm mắt chữ a mồm chữ o。 Người đọc cứ tưởng mình đoán trúng hung thủ cơ nhưng mà bị dắt mũi ko biết。 Dạo này tự dưng chuyển hướng qua trinh thám, vừa nhai bò khô vừa đọc, chill hết cỡ。

Very fun murder mystery, and I’m proud of myself for figuring out whodunnit pretty early on。 I still needed the illustrious Hercule Poirot to explain the how and why, but it became clear to me about halfway in that the murderer could only be one person。 So satisfying to be right! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A Hercule Poirot murder mystery novel。 A rich man is murdered and all his relatives and friends were suspects。 Poirot demolishes every suspects statements their by their by revealing the truth。 I am able to guess the murderer half way down the book。 Yet it is interesting。

As someone who is obsessed with crime fiction and mystery, I was initially very intrigued by this book。 Written by the highly awarded author, my expectations were set high。 The flow of the story was engaging, and had me switching up who I thought the suspect was almost every chapter。 Although I feel like the book came to an abrupt end, the story was written very well, and was an overall fascinating story。

This was my favorite so far of Poirot series。 I definitely did not expect the ending!

Nice twist!

A fascinating mystery, although I was slightly put off by its ending and the identity of the killer。 But the writing was superb: simple, clean, and terse。

Man, I loved this book。 It was intriguing throughout, and it kept me interested and involved the entire time。 I was honestly at a loss for who the culprit was, and the reveal blew all of my guesses out of the water。 It was an excellent book with lots of twists and turns that I never expected。 If you want a really good murder mystery book, I’d recommend this one。 This is definitely my favorite Poirot mystery I’ve read so far。

5 stars The best novel of Poirot's that I have read so far - showcases all the best writing skills of Agatha Christie very well and it is the perfect case of an unreliable narrator。 All around, definitely would say that even if you would not read her other novels, at least read this one! 5 stars The best novel of Poirot's that I have read so far - showcases all the best writing skills of Agatha Christie very well and it is the perfect case of an unreliable narrator。 All around, definitely would say that even if you would not read her other novels, at least read this one! 。。。more

what the hell, how was this good。 i'm mad。 first thriller i've loved in a long time。 maybe there's still hope。i really believed agatha christie's novels generally all followed a very simplistic and linear narrative structure and i couldn't be bothered with them but this one was so delightful! there was a good number of twists and turns and the pacing was so so great as well。 i was at the edge of my seat the whole time and completely failed to solve the mystery before it was revealed to me。 touch what the hell, how was this good。 i'm mad。 first thriller i've loved in a long time。 maybe there's still hope。i really believed agatha christie's novels generally all followed a very simplistic and linear narrative structure and i couldn't be bothered with them but this one was so delightful! there was a good number of twists and turns and the pacing was so so great as well。 i was at the edge of my seat the whole time and completely failed to solve the mystery before it was revealed to me。 touché。 i shouldn't have underestimated miss christie。 excited to pick up more from her! <3 。。。more

Actually not my favorite Christie novel! I'd say the majority of the book is a 3 and the ending is a 5, evens out to about 3。5。 I will say the ending twist is next level though - there's zero chance a reader could foresee this reveal。 That alone makes it worth the read。 Actually not my favorite Christie novel!

I love Agatha Christie and Hercule Poirot too! I read most of her books a long time ago but have since forgotten what they were about。 It was a trip down memory lane to read this again and I feel like I appreciated the nuances even more now。
